Power Ranking Uniforms Worn By America In Wars

Writer's picture: Matt Fire Matt Fire

Day #17 of the power ranking push and if you’re still here with me, I appreciate you. Today’s blog is brought to you by another day of morning coffee and a great night's sleep. If you haven’t noticed by now, I am a huge uniform guy. I’ve power ranked them in a few different capacities now and I even collect them. But I think I hive respect to the uniforms that really matter. The uniforms of the American troops.

I respect the troops. I know many people who have sacrificed their time and efforts to ensure that we continue to live in a free country. Our very own Tyler $ is a member of the Michigan National Guard so you could say that 616 Sports respects and employs the troops. Anyway, today I will be power ranking the uniforms of American troops worn into the major wars we have fought. The wars in consideration are as follows, the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Mexican-American War, Civil War, WW1, WW2, Vietnam War/Korean Wars. Again, this is in no way a slander effort at anyone who fought in these wars, just a blog to make people laugh during a weird time. Let’s ride.

7. Mexican-American War – Overall this war doesn’t get a lot of attention from people. It was a relatively quick conflict that happened a long time ago. The Americans could have been wearing some cutting-edge uniforms for the time and that still might not be enough to move them from the last sport. While the uniforms are bit lack luster, some changes were made accommodate the southwest climate that they were fighting in.

6. War of 1812 – The War of 1812 has much better brand recognition that that of the Mexican-American war. Aside from being another war that we’ve won, this was when the star-spangled banner was written. This is a tough uniform to rank because at this point in history wars we just about having as many bodies as possible and making sure generals look good.

5. Revolutionary War – Without this war none of these others happen and since it was a revolution, uniformity was lacking in many regards. Sometimes people would just fight in whatever clothes they owned. I love the can-do attitude but as a critic of uniforms it’s hard to rank any higher. They eventually evolved into something like the image above but the look did vary based upon materials available.

4. World War 1 – For the first time ever, olive and khaki colors became highly coveted. As the entire world went to war, we saw the first real drastic uniform changes be made. Some might say that WW1 introduced the concept of skinny jeans to the world. Personally, this uniform doesn’t live up to the results of the war. Looks like something a beta would wear.

3. Civil War – I want it to be known that I am super against slavery and I'm glad that it no longer exists. What I do appreciate about the Civil War from a uniform stand point is that this was the first time ever that there were consistent uniforms for everyone involved. All of the soldiers fighting had those sweet little hats, the uniforms became simple and all were the same color.

2. Vietnam/Korean War – I grouped these two together because the changes made in uniforms between each conflict weren’t really that drastic. Both wars were fought in the pacific so specific alterations were made to accommodate the fighting. During the Korean War, it got really cold during the winter so we rolled out olive winter coats. And then for the Vietnam war we made the pants and boots to better accommodate the wet jungles the fighting was taking place in. Cutting edge stuff for the USA.

1 World War 2 – Not to be dramatic but America’s performance in this war went at lengths to make the world a better place. And their performance could not have been done without the olive/khaki drip. This was first American war uniform that looked bad ass and was also helpful in war. What also made this look nique was that it was used all over Europe but also in the Pacific. Everything about this look head to toe is fully of grit and Nazi ass kicking potential.
