Power Ranking The Presidents of Mt. Rushmore

Writer's picture: Matt Fire Matt Fire

Day #13 of the power ranking push is brought to you by tonight’s NFL Draft and as always, the morning cup of coffee. Everyone likes to talk about how great of a tribute Mt. Rushmore is and how deserving the men on the monument are to be there. I’m not here to debate that, if anything, I am going to highlight their pedigrees. I just feel like sometimes the monument becomes a little too romanticized.

The former presidents on the monument are as follows, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt. Let’s ride.

4. Theodore Roosevelt – I feel bad putting my guy Teddy at this spot but when you look at his body of work, it differs just slightly from the others. I do give him credit for getting the Panama Canal going, that was tight. He did a lot of stuff for the economy and sort of ushered in the roaring 20s so shout out to Jay Gatsby. But the roaring 20s were followed by the great depression so he’s kind of got that going against him. Shout out to when Robin Williams played Teddy R. in Night at the Museum.

3. George Washington – Washington gets credit for leading a bunch of rag tag colonists into war and overthrowing the British government. And I guess establishing the concept of democracy in America. All I'm saying is that his ritzy white hairdo was not going into very many close combats and he just led from a distance. I do question what Washington’s ceiling would be today as a president, kinda like when people ask if Babe Ruth could get a hit off a pitcher in the MLB today.

2. Thomas Jefferson – When Thomas Jefferson became president, he went from being the biggest beta ever to alpha status. Jefferson basically wrote the entire Declaration of Independence himself which would have been a big-time whammy if he never found his way into the office. Once Jefferson became president, he put in work and acquired the Louisiana Territory which might be a bigger deal than the Declaration of Independence. Just imagine if France still had that land and we never got any gumbo.

1. Abraham Lincoln – You must respect Lincoln for becoming the breaker of chains and freeing slaves long before we ever saw Daenerys Targaryen doing so. Regardless, Abraham Lincoln literally guided America through one of the most tumultuous eras of American history. Through all of the Civil War fighting, he was able to drop heater speeches like the Gettysburg address and preserve the Union.  Plus, my guy got assassinated so that means he really is a legend.
