Day #18 of the power ranking push. Today's blog is brought to you by morning coffee but also the plate of eggs I just ate. I was on Twitter yesterday when I saw this Tik Tok from someone I assume to be named Chad. The man whoI also assume belongs to Delta Alpha Delta ranked the NFL theme songs used by the different networks. He’s not the first person to do this on Tik Tok nor will he be the last. It just so happens that today he was the person who I saw.
Quick side note, I know absolutely nothing about Tik Tok and that is very humbling to say. As someone who is pretty social media savvy, this hurts to admit. It is now likely that I will have to download the app and start making some form of Tik Toks. I don’t want to be left behind. That’s neither here nor there though, because we’re here to power rank stuff. NFL theme songs in contention, NFL, ESPN, CBS, NBC and the NFL Network. Let’s ride.
5. NFL Network – I have never once watched a game of football on the NFL Network and I now plan to never do so. The intro absolutely sucks and does nothing to get me ready for a game of football. If Chad ranked the NFL Network theme #1 to get people pissed off, then it’s a job well done because it worked on me. My dad used to pay for the MLB and NHL networks with our cable package, but he would never be caught dead paying for this garbage.
4. ESPN Monday Night Football – Theoretically the ESPN theme should score much better because after all, they're the only game of the day. But they also employ Booger McFarland to breakdown the games so that really hurts them. Back when Jon Gruden was in the booth, Monday nights were something special. Could ESPN make Monday nights mean something again? Sure. Get rid of Booger and bring in Pat McAfee. McAfee alone would be enough to make this a top 2 theme song.
3. CBS – The CBS theme is a classic and has been around for what feels like forever. Now that CBS has paired Jim Nantz with Tony Romo the music seems to sound even better. CBS could probably be higher on the list but I really don’t watch that many games on CBS because the Lions usually play on FOX and lose in fashions that make me not want to watch football the rest of the day. Credit to CBS for sticking with music that got them to where they are now.
2. NBC Sunday Night Football – What makes NBC so great is that at this point on a Sunday, we’re in football euphoria and this ends up being the finisher to another good day of football. Al Michaels and Chris Collinsworth steady the ship that is guided by this theme song. Imagine you’re sitting on the couch with one last-last beer, the Buccaneers are hosting the Saints strictly because Tom Brady plays in Tampa now, the theme song gently plays are we return from halftime in a 0-0 game because both QBs are old as shit. Life is good.
1. Fox – NFL on FOX is a football guy's network that has a theme song worthy of the football guys dedicated to watching the NFC duke it out every Sunday. The FOX theme song was also built for the robot guy that FOX uses to high step and make juke moves. I’m not even kidding when I say just hearing the NFL on FOX theme git me going a little and had m ready to hear Joe Buck call a game. Please let us have some football this tear because I need to hear these guys.
