Day #15 of the power ranking push, happy Saturday boys and girls. Today’s blog is brought to you by a cup or 2 of coffee and the breakfast that my mom just made. She got back to the basics this morning and executed the pancakes and sausage combo super well. My dad put in a special request that a single waffle was made for him. Never mind that my mom had to make a single waffle, I’m more perplexed that my dad is a waffle guy. I’ve known the guy for 23 years and just learned that he prefers waffles. I honestly people only eat waffles out of necessity at shitty hotel continental breakfasts.
This whole pancake/waffle squabble at my house has been an eye open of sorts. My dumb ass didn’t realize that the same badder is used for pancakes, waffles and crepes. Mind blowing stuff. But you can’t have a conversation of breakfast foods like pancakes, waffles and crepes without mentioning French toast. French toast is a delicacy that people love to eat in the mornings. Therefore, I’m going to power rank pancakes, waffles, crepes and French toast. Let’s ride.
4. Crepes – Crepes are really just super thin pancakes from France. When crepes are done well, they’re so damn good. The only issue I have with them is that they’re so hard to do well. As a resident of rural Michigan there’s not many crepe shops at my disposal either. Little brag here, but I was able to reach peak white American tourist levels as I ate a crepe beneath the Eiffel tower in Paris.
3. Waffles – I don't hate waffles by any means but their brand has been hurt by the influx of freezer waffles in stores. When I was in middle school, I put a HURTING on freezer waffles every morning. Perhaps that’s why I am not as high on the waffle brand as a whole. Waffles are good every now and then aka when you stay at a Holiday Inn. When was the last time you saw someone order a stack of pancakes for the table??
2. French Toast – French toast is a very good breakfast meal but the varieties that come with Its production cost it a sport at #1. You have to use the Texas toast style bread to get the maximum potential from this tasty treat. Using your run of the mill loaf of bread isn’t going to cut it. One other complaint that I have is that sometimes the slices of can end up with too much egg on them. Bonus points to the restaurants that put frosted flakes and stuff like that on their French toast.
1. Pancakes – The range that pancakes have is unreal. Plain pancakes are super good but you can also add blue berries, chocolate chips or even bananas into the mix. I know that waffles have Waffle House but that’s the Wal-Mart of the breakfast industry. People yearn for a classy breakfast place like International House of Pancakes, that is also open 24/7. A free life tip, order a stack of pancakes for the table the next time we’re allowed to go out for brunch, you’ll thank me later. Just the range that this dish has made this a super easy pick at #1.
