I don't really think I need to sugar coat it, quarantine fucking sucks. While I understand the need for it, that doesn't mean that I have to enjoy it either. As I've been reflecting in quarantine, I do realize that there are many simple things from my life that I miss and I never really thought them to be that essential until now. Anyway, here are the 10 things that I'm most looking forward to when things are done.
10. Shop at a mall- I didn't know how much I actually liked malls until I couldn't go to one. While I am a HUGE eCommerce guy and prefer shopping online, there's something to be said about physically being able to walk into a store. Nothing beats being able to say, "I'm fine, I'm just looking for now." the ability to have the upper hand is something I really appreciate. Additionally, nothing is better than a pretzel while shopping at the mall. I don't care if you're a Aunt Anne's guy or a Wetzel's girl at the very least we can all agree on this principle.
9. Go to Dave and Busters- Now I've been to Dave and Buster's once in my life and it was just ok. I think the food and drinks are grossly over priced for really only being a better Chuck E Cheese. However, they do serve beer and at the moment I'm sick of drinking beer in my basement. Right now I would give a lot to buy an over priced Bud Light and play some shitty arcade games. As soon as this shit is over catch me at the closet Dave and Buster's playing skeet ball.
8. Go to the beach- I don't care if you're in Michigan or Florida, we all love our beaches. Currently the beaches are closed as preventative measures. Again, that's totally fine. If closing the beaches means that things will get back to normal sooner rather than later, I'm all in. But as a Michigander, I love my beaches and as the weather gets nicer and nicer it's tough to see that I can't go to them. I'd like to think that once the beaches open back up, every single beach in Michigan is going to look like Ft. Lauderdale during spring break.
7. Get wings from Bdubs- In grand scheme of things I know that the wings at Buffalo Wild Wings are really shitty but I honestly don't know if there are really any better wings available around me. If I'm eating to eat wings at Bdubs that's a very good sign for the global landscape in regards to COVID-19. And credit to Bdubs, where else can you get boneless wings, draft beer and middle aged dads trying to avoid their families?
6. Get a haircut- Getting a professional haircut is something that a lot of dudes are dreaming of right now. Some men are going to let the flow grow, and in reality, most shouldn't. At the moment I think I want to grow my hair out but I think I would take a fresh haircut in a heart beat. That first haircut is going to hit different because right now we have rough looking dudes. And for what it's worth I would rather not cut my hair than buzz it all off.
5. Backyard cookout- Is there anything better than backyard cookout during the summer? Even if it's just a bare bones cookout with hotdogs and chips, I consider that worthy of backyard cookout status because after all it's about the people at the cookout. Thanks to COVID-19 we have entirely been robbed of the yearly phenomenon of #DartySzn. Darty Szn is a magical time of random 60 degree days in March and April, that end up getting mixed with copious amounts of day drinking. The first cookout of the year needs to start at 10 AM, have every yard game/drinking game possible and a fire country music playlist as a nod to the lost #DartySzn.
4. Watch a live sporting event- I want sports to come back with every fiber of my body. I don't care if there's no fans allowed in the arena, I just want to see people actually play the sports. I have watched so many classic games that they almost don't bring me anymore joy. I need new heart breaks as a fan. I need new triumphs as a fan, because watching MSU beat Duke in 2019 is great and all but I want new things to make me happy as a fan. Hopefully as soon as quarantine restrictions are lifted pro sports are given the green light to resume because I need something to watch as a sports fan.
3. Gamble on sports- I'm not exaggerating when I say this, but I had not lost a bet in a solid week when sports were cancelled. Like I was on fire. And of course the one time I was actually making money as a gambler it gets taken from me. I'm sick of half-ass betting video game simulations or stuff like that, I just want to bet actual sports again. Hypothetically, if quarantine is lifted, sports should be able to resume and that means I would be able to gamble again.
2. Go golfing- Based upon my overall skill, I shouldn't love golf as much as I do. But also based upon how much money I spend annually to golf, I fucking love golfing. I was lucky enough to golf twice before golf courses in Michigan were shut down and that still wasn't enough. Last week alone in West Michigan there were 3 days that were perfect days to golf but instead I respectfully sat at home in quarantine. There are a lot of things on the post quarantine bucket list but nothing else has the same priority as golfing.
1. Go to the bar- I've never thought of myself as an alcoholic or even a bar junkie, but more as a man who loves the social aspect of bars and getting mangled with friends along the way. But here I sit at home just wanting to sit at a barstool with a beer in hand and watch sports with a basket of fries in front of me. I'm not kidding when I say that as a soon as I'm able to, I am going to bars. I will literally go to any bar availble to me because I'm sick of getting drunk in my basement on a Zoom call.
